Cabinets-Color

Cabinets are the next big thing on my list. I have already spent a lot of time thinking about them but now it is time to make some final decisions. I am going to try to narrow it down into separate parts to make it a little easier. First off I am trying to decide if I really want to add some color to part of the cabinets. Right now I am thinking of doing wood for the majority, black on the back of my island and desk area, and a glazed teal on my butlers pantry. Over all it would be at least 70% wood tone. These are a few pictures that give you an idea of what I am talking about. I haven't decided for sure on colors but something in this general area.

This first picture shows what it would look like with the three different colors combined into one area. This isn't quite the style I am looking for but kind of shows the general idea.

These next two pictures just show the teal islands in different shades. Do you think I could pull of this color?

This last one shows a different kind of color combo. . . I think it is a little light for me but I still like the combination of colors.

You may be asking "Why do color at all" and here is my short answer to that. I am going to have a lot of wood going on in one room. Between floors, cabinets, mantals, banisters etc I kind of want to break it all up. Plus I am really digging more color these days! If you have suggestions or ideas . . . please help ASAP.

  1. I like the third one, but maybe that's just because of the white cabinets. Would you ever consider that? That would really break up the wood! I love white cabinets. I just wish mine were a little nicer.

  2. I am not at all crazy about teal on the cabinets. But I do love the idea of using teal as your accent color. For example, teal cusions on bar stools, teal light fixtures, teal canisters or kitchenaid, teal decorations, teal backsplash. You get the idea.

I think it would look cool if you painted one of the walls in your kitchen teal, again using it as an accent color instead of a cabinet color.

  3. I love color, your idea on painting the butlers pantry teal sounds good, not too much and black is always good. I love the look of cabinets that have like crown molding on the tops and those a different color. Like if your cabinets are all wood do the crown molding black or teal or just get the color in that way. No idea if that makes sense, I am picturing it in my head quite well but not great at describing and technical terms:-)

  4. I think if you want color, accents are a better idea. Or stick to a neutral (brown, black, tan, etc) so that you can resell and won't hate it later. And painted cabinets is more of a modern thing (if you're going for a color), and I think Alder cabinets are more rustic. So it might be hard to mesh the two. If you do, maybe you could glaze them so they are more rustic?

  5. i LOVE the color. I think that if you do the bakers cabinet that would be great because it will break up all the wood. But just make sure to accent the other side with a turquoise plate or vase or something like that. I think if you paint black on the island you definitely need to incorporate that somewhere else..... I like the fist turquoise the best!
